Pasture Raised Poultry
Our chickens and turkeys are provided with the type of life these animals prefer; pasture, clean water, fresh air and sunshine. We raise these birds in a way that promotes their good health, and in turn our own. Pasture raised poultry has been shown to have less fat, fewer calories, more omega-e fatty acids, and more beta-carotene. And, we never-ever use synthetic hormones or antibiotics on any of our poultry products.
All poultry requires supplemental feed regardless of pasture – bugs and grass are not enough. It is estimated that meat birds on pasture get 70-90% of their dietary needs from the grains that they are fed. We choose to feed Certified Organic grain.
Certified Organic grains are grown from seed that has not been genetically modified (GMO). They are grown in a healthy, living soil, and have not been treated with chemical herbicides, insecticides, or fertilizers. Moreover, organic grains usually have greater nutritional value.
It is helpful to understand what the government allows in conventional feed:
– antibiotics, animal byproducts, pesticides, sewage sludge, arsenic-based drugs
Bottom line — we believe organic grains are healthier and more nutritious for animals and the products consumed from them. They are also twice as expensive as conventional feeds. Bummer!
When comparing prices for poultry and eggs be sure to ask if their supplemental feed is Certified Organic or not - whole grain does not mean organic. It’s a straightforward question.
Yea!!! Field Stone Farm is the BEST!
I can attest to the delicious taste the eggs from CSA Farm deliver. I had about 3 dozen and they were gone in a little over a week. My daughters and I were very impressed with the difference from store bought eggs. Thanks CSA for your hard work and dedication!!
Best Thanksgiving turkey EVER!!!
